Antique vanity redo…

***My blog has moved over to WordPress.com!  Follow the link http://www.sewsweetcottage.com/2012/03/antique-vanity-redo/and move on over with me!!***

I was looking on Craigslist for a desk I could redo for my little Miss and I wasn’t having any luck.  I finally started looking for other things in the antiques section and came across an antique vanity that I knew I could convert into a desk!!  It was $45, so I couldn’t beat the price, and it had such charming details!
Here’s what it looked like before I got my hands on it…

Look at all those details on the front legs!!  And the curved-front drawers?!?  So sweet!!  But it was in dire needs of a makeover.  One of the drawers had a 1/2 inch piece broken off the drawer face and so, because we are true professionals, my husband used a brio train curved track piece to fix it!!  Kudos to the hubby for thinking of that one, it was a perfect fit!!
After she was sanded down and broken parts were mended, she got a nice coat of…watermelon pink paint!!  My neighbor brought over his professional sprayer and helped us, and he said, “you know if little Miss eats watermelon on this desk, you’ll never notice if she spills.”  Oh I had doubters on this furniture redo just as I had in the past, but I still prevailed!!  I had vision!!
So here is how she looks now…

And here’s how it looks with the $7 chair my mom and I found at a thrift store and reupholstered.

I made the lamp shade, and bulletin board which will be featured this week along with pictures from the rest of the girls’ room, so stay tuned…

    1. A lot of them were hand me downs or sold with a home we bought. The vanity was a sweet find from Craigslist, and the chair was from a thrift store. Estate sales are a great place to find furniture as well as garage sales--just keep your eyes out!!
