Learning curve…

Let’s talk about the learning curve of starting a blog—nevermind, let’s NOT talk about it.  I am very grateful to my new bloggy friends who have filled me in on things I didn’t understand:)

But no one filled me in on the learning curve of listing an item on Etsy…SO!!  Let me just apologize if any of you went to purchase my Eliza Jane PDF Pattern for the PB Inspired Quilt, and found nothing there.  I have since remedied the problem and the pattern is ready for you to buy and get sewing immediately!!

As long as we’re being honest about learning curves, may I just be a cheerleader for one moment and say that if you are thinking about making this quilt—it is not too difficult—YOU CAN DO IT!!!  (imagine me dancing ridiculously to cheer you on right now)  And if you don’t have any sweet girlies to make this for, you can make a boys themed PB inspired quilt like I did for Justin.

Besides, I made the pattern really detailed, in the most OCD manner that I possibly could so that it will be a very pleasant, non-cursing experience for you:)  All the measurements of the strips and borders are done so you don’t have to figure any of that out on your own!!

Why did I do all that??  Less stress for you, and who doesn’t enjoy a shorter learning curve!!  Head on over to my Etsy shop and have fun making this quilt!

Toy Story toy box…

My mom bought a wooden toy box from Michaels when my Little Miss was just a baby and painted it for her nursery.  I was in an “anti-pink” mood back then and wanted bright colors like red, lime green, and a touch of black.  I did go through a pink stage once she was born, and of course you’ve seen her room now—PAH-INK!!!  It took me 7 years before I gave in completely, and I love it!  But we still have black accents and tons of red, so my mom’s toy box still fits in beautifully…

I wanted to make one for Justin that would go in his room, and be personal for him.   I’m so glad he LOVES Toy Story, because it was the perfect theme to fit in his space room.

Before you see this, I am NOT an artist.  I took some books we had of Toy Story characters and then sketched some basic outlines on the box and then started playing with acrylic paint.  I really didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but like I’ve said before—I don’t mind just winging it!!  And this wasn’t something I did in one sitting, by any means—in fact, I think I had the box and paints sitting on my dining room floor for a month or two and just worked on it whenever my Little Guy was napping.  There was a lot of trial and error and do-overs, but I REALLY enjoyed painting this.

Here’s how Buzz turned out…

I can’t stop laughing when I look at this because I held this 14 inch action figure of Buzz, right next to my face for hours trying to figure out how to make him look good as a 2 dimensional figure!!

I tried writing Justin’s name on the top a couple of times, and nothing looked right.  It was frustrating because the whole box was finished but the top.  Then it hit me that I should have Justin write his name—but I needed it painted on AND he’s not always compliant when we ask him to write his name.

So I had him write down “Justin’s Toys” on a sheet of type paper—and HE DID IT!!  Then I traced his own handwriting on the box, and then painted over the lines with black so it’s “his” handwriting.  I LOVE IT NOW!!  It was the perfect thing to finish of his toy box.

And it’s so cute at the foot of his bed…
