If I wasn’t on Pinterest so much, I might have more time for dusting my house—
BUT, I wouldn’t have this cute Birthday Balloon Wreath. Check out my inspiration from How Does She and here.
I added a painted monogram letter J, and I can switch it out for the initial of each of my kids on their special day!
Here’s the supply list to make the wreath:
- Straw wreath
- 4 small packs greening pins
- Ribbon to wrap around the wreath
- 100-120 balloons
- pipe cleaner
- Monogram wooden letter
I wrapped my straw wreath with red and white polka-dot ribbon first and then started pinning the balloons with the greening pins until I thought it was full enough. Then I wrapped different colors of pipe cleaner around a pencil to make them spiraled, and pinned those into the wreath with the greening pins. My thumb was so red from pushing all the greening pins in—but half-way through I got smart and used a rubber mallet to pound them in. Save your thumbs and use a mallet!!
Wrapping the wreath with ribbon will help you use less balloons on the sides and it just looks cute!
My most cherished compliment came from a 10 year old boy who asked me if I had made this wreath because he thought it was “cool.” I thought he was amazing for even noticing there was a wreath on the door!! It’s a crowd pleaser!

I wish I had seen your idea of wrapping the wreath with ribbon before I made my balloon wreath. Oh, well. I have been thinking of adding a monogram as well. How did you attach your?
ReplyDeleteI am using a triangle picture hanger on the back of the letter and then hiding a hook under one of the balloons so that I can still change out the letters for different birthdays. I hope you enjoy displaying your wreath!
DeleteWOW! Beautiful wreath! I love these opposed to the balloons tied onto the front door.. plus its something they can save! Love your blog!

Super fun, and I am dying over your pipe clean curly ques. SOOOOO cute!!
ReplyDeleteWhat size balloons do you typically use?
ReplyDeleteI have used 6 inch up to 12 inch but my preferred size is the 9 inch. Different sizes give it a different look depending on how dense you pack them together. It just depends on what look your are going for--I've done all different sizes and frankly, they all turn out so cute no matter what size you use!!
Deletecan i use styrafoam wreath and floral pins to make this?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would hold up as well with the floral pins, but you could try it if you want to:)

Made this today. It is sooooo cute! Planning to use some type of chalkboard plaque (instead of wooden letter) so we can write the birthday person's name. Then we can use the wreath for extended family and friends. Thanks for posting! Saw your idea on Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteSuch an adorable wreath!! Love it!

Very nice post for Birthday balloon decorations
ReplyDelete.
Hi! Love this. I made this recently and learned a very valuable lesson. Mine just fit between our two doors and it recently got EXTREMELY cold (-25) here. Condensation built up on the outside door and the balloons stuck to it and then froze so when we opened the door, the wreath shattered and broke into 6 pieces! I'm so sad after I spent so much time on it. I now went out and bought a new form so I can make it again. Be careful if you live in the North and hang this on your door int he winter!
