After we had Justin, Little Miss came along 22 months later. And then we had a long 5 year break before the next Little Guy arrived. So when we found out we were having a boy, I wasn’t sure whether or not Justin would tolerate a little baby sharing his room. With the crying and instability…I just wasn’t sure. So our Little Guy shared a room with his big sister until he was a little over a year and by that time we had seen how well Justin tolerated the Little Guy, so we put them in a room together. May I just say, there were no angels singing that night!! Their first night together, after we had moved the crib into Justin’s room, was TERRIBLE!! We ended up having all three of the kids crying at the same time and my husband and I just looked at each other, and I was expecting #4, and couldn’t stop laughing!! Really?? All three kids crying at the same time—how fun!! We knew it would be a rough night, but we’d had a million already before so we knew we’d get through it. And sure enough, they were used to each other by the second night!!
Justin’s room was already set up with a Space theme and Little Guy’s crib bedding was sock monkey themed. So I had to get a little creative in blending the two themes, but I think it turned out.
Here’s what the room looks like on Justin’s side…
We painted one accent wall in his room a midnight blue and then put glow in the dark stars all over the top half of the wall and the ceiling. It looks so cool at night!! Then we hung plastic planets that we found at the Discovery Channel store along one side of the ceiling.
We also installed this space fan that we found at Lowes…
I’ll be sharing more details about my Pottery Barn inspired art work on the wall later this week.
And here’s my Little Guy’s side of the room…
We ended up adding a high chair rail and then painting the lower half of the room a chestnut color to help blend the two themes together—I think it worked well!!
They’ve been sharing a room for over a year now and we are amazed how each of them has build up a tolerance to the other one’s screaming—we still get up during the night with one or the other of the two at least a couple times a week. At least there is a cute room to look at while we are up chasing kids, right??
